How BestIn rankings work
Rankings are decided by the community, with safeguards so that they stay fair and hard to manipulate.
Confidence, not just totals
We rank by the lower bound of the Wilson score interval. A place with 90 up and 10 down ranks above one with 2 up and 0 down, because we are more confident about it.
Minimum votes
A place needs at least 3 votes before it gets a rank. New entries are listed below the ranking until then.
Recent votes matter more
Votes lose half their influence after 365 days, so rankings reflect how good a place is today.
Trusted voters count more
Brand-new and unverified accounts count less, and their weight grows as the account ages. Confirmed email or Google/Apple sign-in counts more.
Manipulation is filtered out
Many accounts voting from the same network or device, sudden bursts of votes from new accounts, and owners voting for their own business are detected automatically and count for little or nothing.
Every submission is checked
Lists, places, reviews and photos are checked by AI and by moderators before they go live. Anyone can report content.
